How to Cook Round Steak

This is an easy recipe on how to cook round steak. It was my turn to cook the other day and I had an idea. How about using the slow cooker with mushroom soup and onion soup mix?

I thawed out a moose round steak, one big enough to feed four adults. Once thawed I trimmed any fat and silver skin from the round steak and then proceeded to cut the meat into 2 inch by four inch pieces. I left the bone in to add flavor.

Four our dinner I only had about 5 hours till serving time, so I chose to pre-set the slow cooker on high temperature. While the cooker was preheating I prepared the remaining ingredients.

How to Cook-Round-Steak in a Slow Cooker

    Ingredients
  • moose round steak
  • 10 ounce tin mushroom soup
  • 1 ounce of onion soup mix
  • 6 – 8 ounces of water
  • 5 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 5 peeled carrots, cut into 2 inch pieces then quartered
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Fresh ground pepper to taste

Round Steak Directions

Place potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker and put meat on top. Place carrots in and around the meat then sprinkle the chopped onions over the whole lot.

In a separate bowl mix the mushroom soup, onion soup mix, garlic and water. I have found that using a whisk is a good way to get the lumps out of the soup. Mix thoroughly to remove the lumps then pour the liquid mixture over the ingredients in the slow cooker.

On high the round steak should be done in about 4 four hours, but leave it longer to get it tender. In my case we had about 5 hours. Once ready... serve and enjoy.

With a little better planning on my part I would have started the meal about 8 hours before dinner so I could have used the low setting. If you can cook round steak for 7 – 8 hours in a slow-cooker you will find that the meat is so tender you won't need a knife.

Speaking of knives, check out the Wusthof knife sets for your kitchen. They stay super sharp and are made of superior quality... we love ours!

So... then how did mine turn out you ask? It was delicious! Maybe not as tender as we would have liked, but the dish certainly was not tough. I thought for sure there was going to be leftovers for my work lunch the next day, but sadly... there were none.

I guess that speaks for the dish!
