Waiting for the Big Boys to Start Sheding

I was out checking known moose areas to check and see if the bulls have stated shedding their antlers and came across these three mature bulls that made it through hunting season. I been keeping an eye on these guys and others that have yarded up in the same area.

Moose have already started to drop antlers here out west. Since you seem to know where they big boys are hanging out, you stand a good chance of finding the sheds.

The larger the mass the earlier in the season moose will loose their antlers. It is just a matter of gravity working against weight. As the base of the antler dies the antler will separate from the scull.

That's why sometimes even well into spring young moose, elk and deer are often seem still carrying their headgear.
