Snowy Face Bull Moose

by Jerris Pacheco

A couple buddies and I found a spot where 4 bulls were wintering in the Colorado high country. We went back every weekend until we couldn't make it in due to snow. We waited till spring and went looking for the shed paddles, but weren't able to turn up any of the four we had seen, but we did find some off of other bulls.

Thanks Jerris,
That's a great picture of a bull with his muzzle covered in snow. My dog gets that way sometimes when he roots around.
That bull must have been nosing about looking for some tender grasses that are buried under the snow.
Once the snow gets too deep then moose will rely on eating the small twigs and needles until spring.
If you get any pictures of shed paddles in the future we'd love to see those too!
